Fred Vasseur questions whether an FIA-selected customer engine could meet Formula 1's performance demands.

Vasseur said an independent manufacturer could build a Formula 1 engine, but achieving competitive performance within the power-unit cost cap would be difficult. FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem proposed selecting one supplier for customer teams.

Ferrari supplies engines to Haas and Cadillac as well as its works team. Current regulations require manufacturers to give customers the same specification of power unit used by their own team.
