Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu confirmed that performance comes first in driver selection, even over affiliations with partners like Toyota or Ferrari. The team recently tested reserve driver Jack Doohan alongside candidates from various programs at Jerez this week.
Komatsu stated they would never take a driver who is three tenths slower regardless of sponsorship or partner connections. Among the candidates are drivers backed by Toyota, Ferrari, and McLaren, plus Doohan as one of Haas's current test drivers.
