The Formula 1 Commission has approved reducing grand prix distances from 305km to 290km for 2027, equivalent to about two or three fewer laps depending on the circuit. The change accommodates revised power unit regulations that increase fuel flow while maintaining the same tank size.
The three-hour race window has been removed, though the maximum two-hour race time remains once the flag drops. A hard stop time will still apply to ensure spectators have the best chance to see a full race if weather or red flag disruptions occur.
