Carlos Sainz revealed that learning he would leave Ferrari represented the most challenging period of his Formula 1 career, despite never expecting his four-year partnership with the team to end. The Spaniard thought he would remain at Ferrari for a long time after what he considered four successful years alongside Charles Leclerc, with the team moving in the right direction.
Sainz needed two or three months to find himself again after the unexpected news, working through how to continue his career and define his next objectives. The difficult period ultimately led to what he believes was the best form of his career, including his victory in Australia and several podium finishes during a strong 2024 season.
The 32-year-old described feeling close to the peak of his career and driving at a very high level in 2026, but expressed frustration with the lack of results due to problems with the Williams car. He considers this year somewhat of a lost season despite his personal performance, hoping next season will place the team in a better position.
Sainz highlighted his best memories from McLaren, where he achieved his first podiums, and his four Ferrari victories, describing the feeling of winning first races as impossible to describe. His podium with Williams in Baku last year remains among the best moments of his career, validating his decision to join the team despite some considering it crazy at the time.
