Formula 1 drivers are eagerly anticipating this weekend's return to Malaysia's Sepang International Circuit, which will host the Bahrain Grand Prix after a nine-year absence from the calendar. The track last held a Formula 1 race in 2017 and previously hosted the Malaysian Grand Prix 19 times between 1999 and 2017.

Ten current drivers have previous experience at Sepang, with Fernando Alonso leading the group after winning three times at the venue in 2005, 2007, and 2012. Max Verstappen won the final Malaysian Grand Prix in 2017, while Lewis Hamilton also claimed victory there in 2014 and has spent significant time in Kuala Lumpur through his relationship with Mercedes sponsor Petronas.

The circuit is known for its flowing layout and overtaking opportunities, but the hot and humid conditions will create one of the most physically demanding weekends of the season. Hamilton emphasized that this represents what Formula 1 should be about - pushing athletes to the edge of their physical and mental performance.

For the 12 drivers who have never raced at Sepang, factory simulator work has been their primary preparation. Championship leader Kimi Antonelli noted the track's fast, flowing corners and predicted high tire degradation could lead to two or three-stop strategies, while weather remains a wildcard with potential for heavy rain.
