Haas driver Ollie Bearman revealed during a fan event that he woke up at 2am with a spider next to his head in his Malaysia hotel room. The young driver described hearing the creature walking up to him before opening his eyes to find it right there beside his head.

Bearman held up his hand to show the spider was the size of his palm, causing gasps from colleagues Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc who were stood nearby. He immediately texted his travel team saying he was moving hotels and would not stay there any longer.

After hitting the spider away and putting on his torch, Bearman could not find the creature anywhere. When he moved to his new hotel, he had not yet opened his suitcase because he feared the spider might be hiding inside his luggage.

Lewis Hamilton expressed surprise at learning Malaysia had spiders that large, saying he would have been sleeping in the car and that the revelation changed everything despite visiting the country for almost 20 years. Bearman was likely describing a huntsman spider, which frequents houses and hotels around Malaysia and uses venom on small prey while running quickly across walls and ceilings rather than creating webs.
