The FIA imposed a €30,000 fine on Audi, with €20,000 suspended, following an unsafe pit stop incident during the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia. Nico Hulkenberg was shown the green light to leave his pit box despite a mechanic standing in front of his car after experiencing problems with a front wing adjustment.
Audi confirmed no contact occurred between Hulkenberg's car and the crew member, with the red light reactivated within 0.2 seconds of the initial green signal. The team's quick response limited the severity of the incident, though stewards still deemed it a safety violation requiring punishment.
The partially suspended nature of the fine means Audi will only pay €10,000 immediately, with the remaining €20,000 held in abeyance pending future conduct. This type of penalty structure encourages teams to maintain safety standards while acknowledging that no actual harm resulted from the procedural error.
