Valtteri Bottas chose an unconventional route to the Singapore Grand Prix by cycling 350 kilometers from Malaysia's Sepang circuit instead of taking a short flight. The Cadillac driver began his journey hours after spinning out of Sunday's rain-delayed Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.
The Finnish driver's off-road journey on gravel paths will see him arrive in Singapore ahead of Thursday's media commitments. On Monday alone, he covered 162 kilometers in nearly six hours on his bicycle, documenting the adventure as part of his cycling pursuits.
Bottas earned a spot at the Gravel World Championships after finishing fifth in his age group at a Czech Republic qualifying event during Formula 1's summer break. However, the championships coincide with the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, preventing him from using his qualification.
The 37-year-old has endured a difficult season with Cadillac, sitting 22nd in the drivers' standings without points after 16 races. He has failed to finish eight races this year, making cycling a welcome distraction from his challenging return to Formula 1.
