Toto Wolff said Mercedes would rather keep its current speed with reliability concerns than run a slower but more dependable car. The team's problems have affected both George Russell and Kimi Antonelli in the championship fight.

Antonelli lost points after a battery retirement in Spain and a wheel shield failure at Silverstone. Russell retired from the lead in Canada with a similar battery issue, while Mercedes is also investigating his Silverstone straight-line speed problem.
