Lawson returned to Racing Bulls after two difficult rounds with Red Bull in 2025. Permane said the New Zealander initially kept his head down and seemed different from the driver the team previously knew.
Permane credited Lawson's simulator, engineering and track work for his recovery. Lawson later secured his 2026 seat and produced a run of stronger performances.
