A cracked engine caused Russell's Mercedes to lose water pressure and stop at the end of Q3. The team believes the leak followed his run over the Turn 4 exit kerb.
Russell will use his fourth power unit of the season without a grid penalty because the replacement has the same specification and remains within his allocation. He is due to start sixth.
