Lewis Hamilton has been given a driving reprimand by FIA stewards following an impeding incident with Liam Lawson during second practice at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver was summoned after the close encounter with the Racing Bulls driver during Thursday's session in Baku.
The incident occurred at Turn 19 when Hamilton was on an out lap and Lawson approached from behind on a flying lap. Lawson was forced to lift and slightly brake to avoid contact with the slow-moving Ferrari. The stewards found that Hamilton failed to follow specific traffic management instructions requiring cars on out laps to remain on the extreme left between Turns 16 and 18.
Hamilton did not stay on the extreme left in the designated zone and remained on the racing line approaching Turn 19. The stewards determined this constituted unnecessary impeding, noting the high-speed nature of the corners despite acknowledging no intent from Hamilton. The reprimand marks Hamilton's second driving reprimand of the 2026 season, with drivers facing automatic grid penalties after accumulating five reprimands.
