Jamie Chadwick completed her first Formula 1 test with Williams at Portimao. The 28-year-old drove 32 laps in Williams' 2025 car under F1's Testing of Previous Cars rules at the Portuguese circuit on Monday. Chadwick became the second woman to drive an F1 car this year, following Doriane Pin who tested a 2021 Mercedes at Silverstone in April. No British woman had tested an F1 car since Jessica Hawkins with Aston Martin in 2023, and Williams had not run a woman since Susie Wolff in 2015.
Chadwick, who won all three W Series championships and an Indy NXT road race in 2024, first joined Williams as a development driver in 2019. She now serves as a Williams ambassador and Sky Sports F1 pundit while racing in the European Le Mans Series. Williams team principal James Vowles praised the feedback Chadwick provided and noted the test's value as Portimao returns to the F1 calendar next year. In preparation, Chadwick underwent simulator training and increased neck strength training with help from George Russell, acknowledging the significant physical demands F1 drivers face.
