Valtteri Bottas blamed a technical malfunction for his crash on the final lap of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Cadillac driver hit the barrier at turn 15 after experiencing problems earlier on the same lap.
Bottas explained that he went off at turn one on the same lap, causing the car's systems to become confused. He suffered what he described as a "big super-clip" of about 100 meters, after which only the front brakes appeared to work properly.
The malfunction meant Bottas was no longer harvesting energy with the rear brakes, creating a significant handling imbalance that contributed to his crash. The stewards are investigating the incident, though no other cars were involved.
Cadillac team principal Marcin Budkowski confirmed the car had experienced a technical problem that the team would investigate further. The crash capped a difficult day for Cadillac, with both drivers finishing well down the order.
