Lando Norris reflected on his public apology to Franco Colapinto over inflammatory remarks he made immediately after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, admitting he got caught up in the heat of the moment. The McLaren driver had criticized Colapinto and suggested some drivers should not be in Formula 1 following a restart collision that eliminated multiple cars.

The incident occurred when Colapinto locked up at Turn 1 during a safety car restart and collided with Alpine teammate Pierre Gasly, which resulted in Gasly hitting Norris. All three drivers retired from the race, with Colapinto receiving a five-place grid penalty for the upcoming Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.

Norris contacted Colapinto directly on Sunday night as soon as possible after the race to apologize personally before issuing a public statement later in the week. He described his comments as not reflecting his true character or intentions, emphasizing that Colapinto is a good friend who always means well.
