Lando Norris revealed he felt compelled to issue a public apology to Franco Colapinto after already apologizing privately to address the wider audience following his harsh criticism of the Alpine driver. Norris had strongly criticized Colapinto for causing a collision that eliminated him from the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The McLaren driver explained that while he only needed to share his apology with Colapinto personally, the public nature of his original comments on television made a social media statement necessary. Norris said there was significant noise in the background that made it sensible to show publicly that he had apologized.

Norris emphasized his concerns about online abuse and death threats that followed the incident, calling such behavior far beyond being a fan of the sport. He noted that some people handle social media pressure better than others and highlighted the need for platforms and sports to do more to prevent abuse.

Colapinto also faces no consequences from Alpine according to team boss Flavio Briatore, who Colapinto described as a great team leader with extensive experience managing difficult situations. The Argentine driver said the team focuses on moving forward rather than dwelling on past mistakes.
