Lewis Hamilton secured his second front-row start of 2026 with what he called 'probably my best lap of the year' in qualifying at Sepang International Circuit. The Ferrari driver will line up alongside pole-sitter Max Verstappen for the first time the pair have started together at the head of a grand prix since Hungary 2023.

Hamilton acknowledged Ferrari faces challenges with straight-line speed deficits that could compromise their race strategy in Malaysia's high-degradation conditions. He explained that Ferrari must push harder through corners to compensate for losses on the straights, which increases tire wear and makes race management more difficult.

The seven-time champion remained cautious about Ferrari's victory chances despite the strong qualifying performance, noting Red Bull's superior long-run pace in practice. Hamilton emphasized the team must run their own race rather than over-pushing to stay with faster cars, which would degrade the tires too quickly.
