Sky pundit David Croft believes Racing Bulls should retain Liam Lawson for next season, noting the New Zealander is best of the rest in ninth place in the drivers' standings despite stepping out for three races to substitute at Red Bull. His 51 points with Racing Bulls, added to his 14 with Red Bull, put him ahead of all drivers outside the top four teams.
Racing Bulls remains the only team yet to confirm either driver for 2027, with Lawson, Arvid Lindblad, and Red Bull junior Nikola Tsolov all in contention. Team principal Alan Permane officially described the Bulgarian as next in line, though he sits second in Formula 2 after falling behind Rafael Câmara at Baku.
Croft praised Lawson's mental recovery after being promoted to Red Bull too soon and jettisoned back down, calling him a properly good racer who has cleared his mind. However, former driver Ralf Schumacher believes the team should drop Lawson for Tsolov, arguing that Lindblad will stay while they give the Bulgarian a chance.
Lawson acknowledged that conversations are constantly happening in the background but emphasized focusing on racing performance. He expressed confidence in his season's work, noting they've had good results and sit in a strong championship position, with decisions expected in the coming weeks.
