Red Bull's recent resurgence has been built on straightline performance gains that complement their aerodynamic improvements from the Baku upgrade package. Max Verstappen's pole position and victory in Malaysia demonstrated how Red Bull power units regularly appeared toward the top of speed trap measurements across the weekend.

Team principal Laurent Mekies revealed that Red Bull engineers made substantial progress in power unit development areas despite restrictions under Formula 1's ADUO rules. The team focused on driveability, operating windows, launches and energy deployment optimization rather than hardware changes prohibited by current regulations.

The power unit improvements create better integration with the chassis package, addressing what Mekies described as the business being about more than peak power or peak downforce. Red Bull's engineers worked to extract performance in all conditions through improved power unit and chassis integration.

While Red Bull was restricted from bringing engine upgrades this year under ADUO regulations, the team found gains through areas where development remained possible. Mekies emphasized that there are many performance factors beyond the internal combustion engine that can be developed and improved, especially in their first year as a power unit manufacturer.
