Mercedes told Andrea Kimi Antonelli not to defend against Lando Norris in Hungary.

Mercedes believed Antonelli's older tyres would leave him unable to contain Norris, so Peter Bonnington instructed him not to lose time fighting the McLaren as Norris closed on the race lead.

Norris passed after initially running wide at Turn 1, while Antonelli later made another pit stop and fell further behind. Norris said afterward that his opportunity to complete the move had been limited.
